#5 Emus

"Full Grown Emu"

Emus come from Australia. Ten years ago raising emu was thought to become very profitable - more than $10,000 was paid per breeding pair. It did not work out. We bought our two pairs for $100 a piece as chicks after the bottom fell out of the market.

Emus are gentle, quiet and curious. They make a deep rumbling sound in their chest, have long legs, powerful feet and like to reach out to tug on your clothing with their beak. Do not worry they are rather shy and careful:
- They will reach out to touch NOT to rip and tear.
- They will peck grain off a flat palm. However they can charge at you at high speed with their long neck stretched out towards you. SCARY!
BUT it is just a game of chicken in which they are the chicken.
